Farm diary30.1.2012 First snow of the year for us. Our inlamb ewes are still out in the fields but we have brought them a little closer to the lambing barn. Our first lamb is due on 14 February so ideally I would like to leave them out for at least another week. Naturally they are now getting some supplementary feed to keep them in condition. All of them have that 'can't we come in early?' expression on their faces.
29.1.2012 Snow is forecaste tonight. Don't really want it just yet with lambs due in a couple of weeks time.
14.1.2012 At last, the first frost of the winter. Much needed. The down side is that we also had to break all the ice on the top of the water buckets.
11.1.2012 The bees from one of our three hives were flying around this morning. This is really crazy weather. Last year this time we had about 12 inches of snow on top of the hives.
10.1.2012 Whilst feeding our in-lamb Jacob ewes this morning saw a very large dark coloured fox walk across the field. I'm sorry but he's going to have to go. If one of the sheep lambs in the field when I am now around he'll take the lambs within seconds. Nature can be so cruel.
8.1.2012 6am this morning there were 2 buzzards sitting in our nearest field. They are big birds. Around midday saw a couple of rooks chasing one away.
5.1.2012 Saw three large roe deer in neighbouring field.
1.1.2012 New Years Day and its warm. Very unseasonal.
This is a picture of some of last years lambs. We will start lambing this year around mid February.
